Visual Perceptual Testing
Why has a visual perceptual evaluation been recommended?
Based upon the results of your child’s vision evaluation, the information you provided about school performance or the recommendation of a teacher, doctor or learning specialist, a Visual Perceptual Evaluation is recommended for your child.
What is a visual perceptual evaluation?
Your child’s ability to process and analyze incoming visual information will be evaluated. This includes assessment of left/right or directional skills, ability to discriminate similarities and differences in shapes; visual memory skills; eye-hand coordination skills and visual processing speed.
Do I need to bring anything to the testing?
In order to gain the best understanding of your child’s vision, it is helpful to bring the following to the Visual Perceptual Evaluation:
____ If your child wears glasses, it is important to have these for the testing.
____ Your child’s most recent report card.
____ A copy of any special testing completed by the school or privately, including:
____ The attached Teacher Questionnaire.
What happens when the testing is finished?
After the testing is complete, the findings will be reviewed and the staff optometrist will explain the results to you. If indicated, the various treatment options will be presented. A written report will also be mailed to you approximately two to three weeks after testing is completed.
