Dr. Silbert has been a member of The Eye Institute's professional staff since its inception in 1978. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Silbert received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1973. After serving 10 years as a Chief of Primary Care Services at The Eye Institute, Dr. Silbert developed the Cornea & Specialty Contact Lens Service, where he helps patients with special needs, most notably with keratoconus and in post-surgical lens fitting.
Dr. Silbert is a Diplomate of the Cornea and Contact Lens Section of the American Academy of Optometry, and a former Chair of the Association of Contact Lens Educators. He is a member of both the New Jersey and the American Optometric Associations. He has conducted clinical investigations for many contact lens manufacturers. Dr. Silbert was Principal Investigator of the CLEK Study (Collaborative Longitudinal Evaluation of Keratoconus) at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, a multi-center study of keratoconus funded by the National Eye Institute.
Dr. Silbert has written numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, has authored 10 chapters in 9 ophthalmic textbooks, and has lectured extensively in invited lectures before many regional, national, and international organizations in subjects involving primary eye care and contact lenses. His book, Anterior Segment Complications of Contact Lens Wear, published by Butterworth-Heinemann is now in its second edition.
