Comprehensive Primary Eye Care
Dr. Ruskiewicz received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois. After graduation, he did advanced training at the University of Illinois Medical Center and received a Masters in Public Health.
Dr. Ruskiewicz divides his time between his office in Pottstown and teaching responsibilities at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia. In the Pottstown office, he specializes in contact lenses and family eye care. At The Eye Institute, Dr. Ruskiewicz supervises interns and teaches in the areas of eye diseases and health care systems. At both locations, Dr. Ruskiewicz has been a leading practitioner in using contact lenses to stop the progression of nearsightedness, therefore eliminating the need for glasses and contacts during the day. These contacts are worn at night to shape the front of the eye.
Teaching has been a large part of Dr. Ruskiewicz’s career. He is a tenured Associate Professor of Public Health and has served as Chairman at two academic departments. He has received numerous grants for research and has published 25 articles and has helped publish one book. He has lectured in Poland, Germany, Switzerland and Norway.
Dr. Ruskiewicz’s primary academic thrust has been to improve the quality of the eye care. This interest in quality of eye care has challenged him to combine modern medical advances with old-fashioned care. Dr. Ruskiewicz feels that health care workers must always respect their patient’s dignity and wishes.
